Daylight Saving Time

Although I equate the annual time change with the silly notion that you can fool yourself into being on time by setting your watches and clocks 5 or 10 minutes fast, I really do enjoy the twice-yearly ritual of resetting my clocks, watches, computers, and other devices. It is a clean slate moment that helps me have a fresh perspective as the seasons change. I don't think , as national policy, daylight saving time does anything to save energy; but, it certainly gives my personal energy a boost. Now I must go and organize my button collection…

  • This is a pretty neat website on the subject I discovered a couple of years ago. There are some interesting stories in the "Incidents and Anecdotes" section:Bombing Thwarted
    September 1999, the West Bank was on Daylight Saving Time while Israel
    had just switched back to standard time. West Bank terrorists prepared
    time bombs and smuggled them to their Israeli counterparts, who
    misunderstood the time on the bombs. As the bombs were being planted,
    they exploded—one hour too early—killing three terrorists instead of
    the intended victims—two busloads of people.
