Why we do it

After spending four hours in the car on I-95 just to get to the outskirts of Richmond, I started to doubt why we would put ourselves through this for a few days of precious vacation. But, once we arrived, unpacked, and located the rest of our family, I realized that it is truly worth it. To strengthen those connectons while just "changing the channel" puts the rest of the year in perspective.

The Beach

August 3, 2007 § Leave a comment

I know that I have been a little terse with my recent posts to this blog. That happens when your time and mind are engaged in the production of opera at Wolf Trap. I am looking forward to spending a week at the beach on the outer banks of North Carolina. There is nothing better than having nothing in particular to do while in possesion of a large container of my Dad's Bloody Marys. My respite will be all the more better because of the wonderful staff and intern crew that I was lucky enough to work with this summer. This is the first time in 24 years that I will not be in attendance for the final performances and strike of the last opera in The Barns. They are a fantastic group and I have no qualms about leaving them to finish the job. I guess at the ripe old age of fifty (ack!), I really can delagate some responsibilities and not feel like I am letting anybody down. Here's to a great summer of Opera! Cheers, Stageman
